More Details

Aircraft Center for Earth Studies

Led by Ved Chirayath, Vetlesen Professor of Earth Sciences and National Geographic Explorer, our multidisciplinary team develops novel instrumentation for ocean imaging, including FluidCam and MiDAR, as well as information systems such as NeMO-Net. We test these technologies through worldwide field campaigns in partnership with NASA, National Geographic, federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Meet the Director

Ved Chirayath is the G. Unger Vetlesen Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School, a National Geographic Explorer, and the founding director of ACES. A NASA-trained astrophysicist-turned-ocean scientist, his work bridges space science and Earth observation to study the planet's least-explored environments.
