ACES focuses on science-driven sensing and technology development to help better understand our changing planet.
Dr. Ved Chirayath, Vetlesen Professor of Earth Sciences and National Geographic Explorer, leads a growing multi-disciplinary team passionate about studying and protecting life on Earth and aiding in the search for life elsewhere in the universe.
Through the development of novel instrumentation for ocean imaging, including FluidCam and MiDAR, and information systems technologies like NeMO-Net, ACES is advancing Earth Science objectives. Our technologies are tested and validated through worldwide scientific field campaigns, often in extreme environments that serve as analogs for planetary science and ocean worlds applications.
Presently, ACES leads several research projects in partnership with NASA, non-profit organizations, federal agencies, and National Geographic. The Center invites you to explore our research, technology, and platform portfolios, along with our media and publications, and welcomes collaborative inquiries from scientists, academia, federal agencies, and other similar partners.
The Final Frontier: Mapping Our Ocean's Floor
Opportunity Miami, an initiative of The Beacon Council, visited the lab to explore how ACES is driving innovation and shaping Miami's economic future.
Impacts of the 2023 Marine Heatwave in the Florida Keys: Detection and Analysis of a Mass Coral Bleaching Event Using Remote Sensing Imagery
Data from two ACES fluid lensing missions to Horseshoe Reef enabled this study to detect coral bleaching and connect aerial imagery with satellite and in-situ observations.
