Cedric Guigand is an accomplished technologist with a strong background in oceanography and extensive experience at sea. After completing his Master of Science in Marine Biology at Florida Tech in 2002, he joined the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science as a Senior Research Associate.
His background in Oceanography and technology, combined with 22 years of experience at sea around the world, led him to produce several innovative marine technologies. He has participated in and managed the logistics, procurement on more than 70 scientific research missions. He is comfortable with a large array of technology and research fields from Marine biology, Physical oceanography, to subsea engineering.
One of Cedric's notable contributions is his work on in-situ plankton imaging with Bellamare LLC and the University of Miami. This project involved the analysis of millions of classified plankton images using an innovative online citizen science approach known as PlanktonPortal. He has also played a key role in the design and commercialization of a patented biodegradable GPS tracked drifter. This technology has garnered significant interest within both the scientific and maritime communities due to its innovative features.
Cedric is also the creator and manager of the Rosenstiel’s MakersLab. A new facility that plays a pivotal role in facilitating a creative and collaborative environment where individuals can explore and experiment with cutting-edge prototyping technologies.
More recently, Cedric has joined the ACES team, where he contributes to field research and airborne instrumentation design.
